Carlos Ariel, a 19 years old, a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, freshman student at Farleigh Dickinson University, in New Jersey, was diagnosed in January 2006, at age 13, with Osteosarcoma in his right tibia leg area. Carlos and his mother moved to New York City seeking for treatment and surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) -Osteosarcoma Information from MSKCC.

Carlos has been in various Clinical Trials for the past six years under the care of Dr. Paul Meyers, Vice Chair, Academic Affairs, Department of Pediatrics. Right after leg surgery, the tumors spread to both of his lungs, where several surgery have taken place.

In spite of all these efforts, his condition has recurred almost every year, and based on the lastest MRI and CT scans (March 23, 2012) the disease has progressed, and this time, with the aggravation that his heart is compromised Doctors have indicated that is not safe at this time to expose him to a high risk surgery.

Carlos is medically insured by private medical insurance Blue Cross (Triple S) from Puerto Rico as primary insurance and Straight Medicaid from New York City.
